Number portability, more commonly known as porting, is a system which allows a phone number to be transferred from one provider to another. All phone providers in the United States are legally required to allow a number port to take process within a reasonable amount of time, assuming the party requesting the port has provided proper information. The information below is the process for transferring a number to Dial Fusion for use on the system, but the same process applies if you wish to transfer your Dial Fusion number to a new provider.
- Dial Fusion gathers information necessary for the port request. This includes the name and address of the account on file with the losing carrier (old carrier being ported FROM), account number, account PIN, and list of phone numbers to port. We also need a signed LOA (letter of authorization) and a copy of your most recent bill from your current carrier. Your Dial Fusion account representative will provide you with a form to fill out to collect this information.
- Dial Fusion submits the porting request to our carrier using the information provided by you.
- Dial Fusion's carrier submits the port request to the losing carrier using the information provided. The number also becomes available in Dial Fusion's console so that it can be preconfigured for use when the port succeeds.
- Assuming all details on the account match, the losing carrier provides the winning carrier (Dial Fusion's carrier) with an FOC (firm order commitment) date. This is the date that the number will actually complete porting to the winning carrier and become active, and is usually 2-6 weeks in the future. If some of the information on the account doesn't match what the losing carrier has on record, they will reject the port and return the request to our carrier to collect updated information.
- Once the FOC date has been reached, the number becomes live on the Dial Fusion system.
- Testing is performed to ensure the number is functioning as expected for both inbound and outbound calls.
- Your Dial Fusion campaign launches!
